Bulganin, Political Marshal Nikolay
1895–1975
   Bulganin was a Soviet leader whose task was to ensure that the Front Commanders did their duty. He served on the GKO (State Defense Committee) and from 1941–44 served on the Western Front, the 2nd Baltic Front and the 1st Belorussian Front. He was the political member of the War Councils on these Fronts and his job was to keep an eye on Soviet Army Commanders and make sure STALIN’s orders were obeyed. He also investigated the failure of the defenses of Leningrad and Stalin’s charges that Marshal ZHUKOV was giving orders without Stalin’s knowledge. In 1944 he became Deputy People’s Commissar of Defense and the Soviet representative to the Lublin Committee in Poland.
